Poverty is the world`s most horrific problem. It ruins individuals and families alike. For a person to have to worry about where their next meal may be is a preventable misfortune. People who are deserving and good at heart must not have to live in such shame. We need to help them overcome their troubles. Next time you go shopping for your fancy designer apparel, think about where else your money could go. We will give you a chance to see how cold and miserable it is to live in poverty.
We`ll give you a chance to realize how lucky YOU are no matter you`re troubles.
OTHERS HAVE BIGGER PROBLEMS

Here is a view of Kibera - the Nairobi Slums
![]() Imagine Central Park in New York. Then pile it with trash, open sewage, rusty shacks, and on top of that throw in over 1 Million people - Not even conceivable. The Nairobi slums in Kenya are expansive and provide intolerable living spaces for the poor. They are disease ridden, horribly dirty and are densely packed together. How are these unfortunate residents expected to move on when their are so cut off from the world? The slums carry hundreds of diseases that can not be treated without proper care. Also, basic supplies such as food are almost immediately contaminated with such poor surrounds. This standard of living is intolerable. IT HAS TO STOP. | ![]() As you can imagine, your personal safety in the Nairobi slums is lacking. The little shacks obviously have no safety features making violent and petty crime a big problem. Also, their is no insulation in the shacks and during parts of the year the average low is 50 degrees farenheit. Imagine sleeping half-naked with NO blankets or insulation at 50 degrees. Also imagine no air conditioning at 100+ degrees Farenheit . As well as this physical discomfort, their is very little clean water/food or organized schooling around. It is virtually impossible to recover and bring yourself out of this poverty. Without extensive aid, the people in the Nairobi slums will continue to live in extreme discomfort for generations. |
![]() | Instead of a palm-lined avenue, flanked as far as the eye can see with designer boutiques, the poor live in homesteads lining dark alleyways filled with a knee deep layer of trash. Long alleys home to desperate people make up these slums. In the middle of these alleys are filthy streams of open sewage. It is a perfect place for insects and other verbatim to multipy, there for spreading preventable diseases like tuberculosis, yellow fever, typhoid, malaria, hepatitis, etc. All efforts to stop these diseases are almost useless if we fail to clean these slums. With a population estimate between 600,000 and 1,000,000, the slums are the second largest in the world. Encompassing about 1% of Nairobi`s total area, it accounts for more than 25% of its population. Under the current circumstances, BanishHungerForLife does not have the resources to begin work in Nairobi or other places in severe need. For now we`ve decided to stay somewhat grounded in terms of our operating boundaries. Therefore we`ve started Mexico School Restoration Project, or MSRP. We are currently in the planning stages of renovating a Mexican School in the small village on the Riviera Nayarit, Rincon de Guayabitos. We`re thinking of building a computer lab set with language learning software to help prepare the kids for the future. -If you can help in anyway please let us know or make a donation- |
